Occupational therapy in mental health is for anyone whose daily activities are affected by a psychological condition.

The occupational therapist can accompany you in order to guide you and support you in resuming the various roles in your life and thus potentially help improve or recover your daily well-being. The occupational therapist intervenes by establishing a therapeutic relationship with you and by working in collaboration with you through discussions, teaching sessions and problem solving. Depending on your priorities, the occupational therapist will guide you to:

  • Improve your ability to build satisfying relationships;
  • Increase your resilience and capacity to adapt;
  • Develop your independence in daily activities;
  • Develop your personal skills and interests;
  • Know and accept your limits;
  • Regain your self-confidence and improve your emotional management.

CONDITIONS TREATED (non-exhaustive):

  • Burnout 
  • Depression diagnosis or depressive symptoms
  • Anxiety diagnosis or symptoms of anxiety (ADHD, anxiety or panic attacks, AGD, etc.)
  • Adjustment disorders;
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder;
  • Any symptoms or psychological conditions that interfere with your daily life.

  • Education about the condition and symptom management;
  • Use of an occupational schedule;
  • Principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy;
  • Behavioral reactivation;
  • Graduated exposure in the clinic, community and workplace;
  • Motivational interviewing;
  • Teaching, counseling and problem solving;
  • Planning the return to work and other activities.


Please note that sessions begin with a 90-minute initial evaluation which includes an interview and specific tests/questionnaires to document your functioning, abilities and difficulties.

The purpose of this evaluation is to highlight your strengths and challenges and then guide the occupational therapist in selecting appropriate and personalized interventions.

Follow-ups are usually 60 minutes long, where the occupational therapist will work with you to acheive your goals  based on your priorities.
