Treatment of seasonal allergies

Acupuncture treatments have a preventive and curative approach.

In Quebec, several pollens are considered allergens. Exposure to allergens can produce symptoms that vary in intensity from person to person. The most common symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, itching, redness of the eyes, watery eyes, and asthma.

The presence of allergens varies throughout the seasons.

  • From March to June: Tree and shrub pollens (birch, elm, maple, poplar, etc.).
  • From May to October: Grass and lawn pollens, bentgrass, hay, etc.
  • From August to October: Herbaceous plant pollens, ragweed, mugwort, etc.
Thus, throughout the summer, it is possible to suffer from allergies depending on our sensitivity to different allergens. In addition to pollens, dust and animal fur can contribute to respiratory allergy symptoms.

Acupuncture treatments have a preventive and curative approach. It is recommended, in order to achieve better results, to consult an acupuncturist before the seasonal allergy period begins, not just when symptoms appear. As a preventive measure, acupuncture strengthens and regulates the immune system, minimizing future outbreaks. It enhances immunity before the critical period to increase resistance. During acute phases, it calms the body’s exaggerated reaction to the environment and alleviates allergy symptoms.

Most private insurances fully or partially cover acupuncture treatments. Additionally, no prescription is required to see an acupuncturist. Please inquire with your insurance provider to determine your coverage.

The CNESST (Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail), IVAC (Indemnisation des victimes d’actes criminels), and SAAQ (Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec) cover acupuncture. Acupuncture can accelerate the healing process by relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and helping you overcome potential post-traumatic stress. For this type of treatment, a medical prescription and authorization from CNESST or SAAQ are necessary . Please discuss this with your doctor.
