Occupational therapy after a workplace accident (CNESST)

Following a work-related accident, your doctor may prescribe occupational therapy to optimize your functional abilities.

These treatments are fully covered by the CNESST (Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail). Our team of occupational therapists has the expertise to accompany you following a work-related injury.

Through an evaluation of your condition, your occupations and your environment, an intervention plan, with your input, will be presented to you.  The intervention plan will help you regain your professional identity and increase your independance in  your daily life.

CONDITIONS TREATED (not exhaustive):

  • Cervical, thoracic or lower back pain 
  • Herniated disc
  • Shoulder Sprain, bursitis, tendonitis
  • Rotator cuff tears in the shoulder
  • Elbow tendonitis, sprain, bursitis,or tear
  • Various hand conditions (see hand therapy section)  
  • Bursitis or tendonitis of the hip 
  • Knee sprain, bursitis or tendonitis
  • Ankle sprain 
  • Ligament or muscle sprain
  • Psychological issues arising from the work environment (see mental health section)
  • Mild traumatic brain injury

MODALITIES USED (not exhaustive):

  • Optimisation of endurance, mobility and strength through graduated and progressive therapeutic activities
  • Simulation of work tasks and functional situations
  • Planning and support for the return to work
  • Recommendations for adaptive equipement relevant to the condition
  • Custom splint fabrication
  • Education about your condition and associated symptoms
  • Education of the proper  principles of postural hygiene
  • Teaching safe work techniques
  • Teaching pain management strategies
  • Listening and psychosocial support

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TREATMENT PROCEDURE FOR CNESST

Following your work accident, in order to be eligible for occupational therapy treatments, make sure you follow these steps as described by the CNESST: 

  • Notify your employer of the accident;
  • Complete the CNESST Worker's Claim (see attached link: https://www.cnesst.gouv.qc.ca/fr/organisation/documentation/formulaires-publications/reclamation-travailleur
  • Consult the doctor of your choice;
  • Make sure that the doctor gives you a medical certificate that will allow you to open your CNESST file and will justify, if necessary, a temporary leave from work or any work task modifications;
  • Depending on the medical recommendations, you may be a candidate for physiotherapy, occupational therapy and/or acupuncture treatments and these must be indicated on the medical certificate;
  • Give the medical certificate to your employer;
  • Call or come to our branch with the medical certificate in hand and an appointment for an evaluation will be scheduled  with you as soon as possible;

CLINIC TRANSFER

Only YOU have the right to choose your rehabilitation facility. Therefore, if you wish to transfer your care to our team in order to benefit from our services, or if you would like to benefit from occupational therapy and physiotherapy treatments under the same roof with us, a change of clinic can take place. All you need is your latest medical prescription and we will contact CNESST to ensure a smooth transition to our care.
